About this grant
This grant to Tides Canada Initiatives will support the Halifax Initiative project. The Halifax Initiative is a coalition of Canadian nongovernmental organizations that works to promote reforms in international financial institutions. Over the next two years, the project will focus on promoting greater accountability and enhanced transparency of the World Bank’s climate finance lending through the meaningful participation of developing countries and nongovernmental organizations; adoption of energy policies at the World Bank that decrease reliance on fossil fuels and promote energy conservation and renewable energy options; and policies and programs in other areas of the World Bank’s operations that contribute to poverty reduction and environmental sustainability. To achieve these objectives, the Halifax Initiative project will conduct research, education, and outreach to the public and policymakers; monitor international financial institutions’ projects; and advocate for policy reform and coalition building.
