About this grant

The Great Lakes Water Protection Program was developed by the Sierra Legal Defence Fund Society (SLDFS) to control water pollution affecting the Great Lakes basin. To this end, SLDFS works to influence the development of new water quality policy and promote the effective implementation of existing water quality regulations.Multiyear funding will enable SLDFS to address priority issues that include the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, sewage management practices, toxic chemical controls and sector-by-sector standards. In addition, SLDFS will endeavor to respond to other opportunities for improving the implementation of existing water quality standards and regularly produce a report on the performance of wastewater discharges.
