About this grant
The University of Michigan-Flint’s School of Education and Human Services is responsible for graduating the majority of new K-12 teachers employed in Flint and Genesee County. More than half of the students enrolled in the Flint schools are African American and the district is eager to recruit more teachers of color. This grant will enable the university’s Center for Service Learning and School Partnerships to continue student-centered activities at Flint Northern High School that will provide exposure to the teaching profession for students of color and increase parental involvement in each student’s college preparation. Project staff will work with Flint Northern High School graduates enrolled at the university, providing supports needed to help them graduate.
