About this grant
Established in 1995, the Eastern Cape NGO Coalition is an association of 140 nongovernmental, community-based, and faith-based organizations operating in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The members share common values based on a collective desire to combat poverty and inequality. The grantee supports advocacy, leadership development, and learning in an effort to help mobilize civil society organizations to lead socioeconomic transformation within their communities. Past support assisted the grantee to organize the nonprofit sector in the Eastern Cape province and facilitate strategic alliances between government, the nonprofit sector, and business. It also trained members on various topical subjects including understanding local governance, strategies to deal with HIV/AIDS, and land and rural development with a focus on food security. This grant will support the grantee to strengthen the networking and mutual learning among its members and to continue to train them on topics relevant to their work.
