About this grant
In 1999, Mott funded research into what was needed to develop women’s leadership and management skills in the nonprofit sector in South Africa. The research identified a need for training and capacity building, specifically targeted at women leaders and managers in the sector. The Desmond Tutu Peace Trust has established an academy that runs a training program for women in positions of leadership and influence in civil society, which Mott has supported since its inception. This grant increase will allow the academy to expand this training program through adding a visual history training component. The aim of this training is to develop the skills and capacity of women to visually record the lessons, experiences, and challenges of providing leadership in their communities. This component will complement the writing collective and peer mentorship support provided by the program.
