About this grant
The program goal is to enhance the development of community philanthropy globally. To this end, the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, housed within the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, runs an international community foundation fellowship program. Each year, the program offers emerging leaders and seasoned community foundation practitioners from foreign countries opportunities to learn about community foundations through an intensive graduate program of research, seminars, conferences, and mentoring. Since its inception in 1989, 186 individuals from 59 countries have participated. The program has sparked the creation of new philanthropic ventures and research resources in places as diverse as Armenia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Slovakia, Turkey, and Vietnam. Founded in 1846, the City University of New York is among the nation’s leading urban public universities. The Research Foundation of the City University of New York was created to expedite and provide oversight of the management of funds obtained by faculty of the university.
