About this grant
This grant will enable the National Center for Black Philanthropy to hold the fifth National Conference on Black Philanthropy in June 2005 in Minneapolis. The center promotes philanthropy in the black community; educates the public about the philanthropic contributions of black Americans; strengthens people and institutions involved in black philanthropy; and conducts research on black philanthropy. The biennial national conference is the highlight of the center’s work.Funding will support the conference, whose theme is "Building a Future Worthy of Our Past." It will explore the role of black philanthropy in addressing and solving a range of problems facing black society. These include HIV/AIDS, education, high rates of incarceration among black males and growing poverty among black children. The conference will feature workshops, plenary sessions with keynote speakers, a distinguished panel and speakers’ series, and roundtable discussions. Between 500 and 600 people are expected to attend.
