About this grant

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law’s program, Building an Enabling Legal Environment for Ukraine’s Nonprofit Sector, provides technical assistance with drafting of legislation affecting the legal status of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and fiscal and tax laws affecting the sector; and education and training initiatives to improve the capacity of lawyers, government officials and NGO leaders throughout the country.Multiyear funding will enable the center to provide technical assistance to three or four leading NGOs; informational resources to a broad number of NGOs interested in international good practices on regulation of NGOs in various countries; assistance and training to government officials on implementing Ukrainian NGO legislation, as well as international good practices of taxation; and professional development for lawyers specializing in nonprofit and philanthropy legislation.Accomplishments since the program’s creation include publishing and distributing numerous books, guides and manuals on NGO legislation, taxation and public financing; strengthening local legal expertise; and providing information, consulting and training to Ukrainian NGOs, government officials, members of parliament and representatives of international organizations.
