About this grant

Since its establishment in 2000, the National Center for Family Philanthropy has helped community foundations reach out to family giving programs, better understand the challenges and concerns facing family philanthropy, and develop strategies and skills to attract and serve this area of giving.Funding will enable the center to continue encouraging community foundations to promote family philanthropy. Activities will include organizing and convening two leadership seminars to address ways to strengthen community foundations’ support of family philanthropy and to provide community foundations with advice on the challenges and opportunities of family philanthropy. Each seminar will be approximately a day and a half and will be held in U.S. regions with the highest concentration of community foundations.Accomplishments during the past two years included publishing an in-depth literature search on critical issues facing community foundations regarding their work with donor families; developing and testing an interview protocol; interviewing more than 20 community foundation leaders; publishing interview findings; creating an educational curriculum for community foundation staff, volunteer leaders and donors; and launching a Web site to provide information for community foundations seeking to learn more about working with family philanthropies.
