About this grant

With nearly 9.4 million residents sprawled across the Los Angeles metropolitan area, public schools find it increasingly difficult to educate over 2.4 million school-aged children. The combination of geographic sprawl and income inequality has exacerbated racial tensions and left people in large part disconnected from one another. The Southern California Education Fund, an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation, has put a priority on improving public education. The One LA Education Project is designed to nurture and facilitate a broad set of economic and social relationships within and outside of schools to build power sufficient to improve Los Angeles’ schools and communities. This grantee provides continued support to build a powerful network of relationships capable of addressing the accelerating problems of the schools in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
