About this grant
The International Society for Third Sector Research, established in 1992, promotes research and education in the fields of philanthropy, civil society and the nonprofit sector. Its main goals are to encourage the study of nonprofit organizations and philanthropy within and across various academic disciplines and national boundaries; provide visibility and credibility to this area of study; and enable scholars in the field to collaborate and share research.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include expanding membership with particular emphasis on developing countries; organizing a sixth international conference in 2004; holding regional meeting for networks in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia and the Pacific; publishing volume three of the "Conference Working Papers Series" from the 2002 South Africa conference; disseminating reports following each of the regional meetings; and establishing an affinity group on transnational nonprofit sector research.During the past two years, accomplishments included strengthening regional research networks; providing an on-line membership directory; sponsoring a fifth international conference; and publishing "Voluntas," a quarterly journal.
