About this grant
This grant provides continued support to the International Society for Third-Sector Research, a global membership association with 885 members from 76 countries that encourages, supports, and provides academic legitimacy to the study of civil society. Founded in 1992 and based at Johns Hopkins University, the society’s major accomplishments include convening biennial international research conferences; publishing special reports, conference working papers, and a scholarly journal; and convening regional meetings of research networks on various continents. Over the next three years, the society’s major activities will include: 1) organizing annual PhD student seminars in several parts of the world; 2) hosting regional meetings in Africa, Asia, and Latin America; 3) expanding a network of African civil society scholars; 4) establishing an International Comparative Project on Institutional Philanthropy; 5) continuing to publish the journal "Voluntas"; and 6) holding a biennial international conference in mid-2018 in the Netherlands.
