About this grant
The Michigan Public Policy Initiative, a program of the Michigan Nonprofit Association, encourages the state nonprofit sector to engage in public policy. To this end, the initiative trains nonprofit leaders, strengthens the capacity of nonprofit organizations, and promotes collaboration between the nonprofit sector and public policymakers.Funding will enable the project to host four to six forums for legislative staff to educate policymakers on issues impacting Michigan’s nonprofits; advocate for public policies that favorably impacts Michigan nonprofits by monitoring and analyzing legislation; convening a one-day conference to help nonprofits advocate for public policy; provide 25 policy training sessions; and develop a new Web site to post relevant nonprofit research developed by Michigan universities.Accomplishments during the past year included convening monthly educational forums for legislative staff; conducting the fifth annual Nonprofit Day conference; providing public policy e-mail news updates and publishing the latest edition of “Michigan Giving and Volunteering”; working with the state to develop a statewide e-grant system; and continuing to work with policymakers and nonprofits on relevant issues impacting the state’s nonprofit sector.
