About this grant
Synergos Institute was established to coordinate and strengthen philanthropy on a global scale. Since 2001, Synergos has been working to build social justice philanthropy in the southern Africa region by strengthening indigenous philanthropy and promoting the institutional development of the grantmaking and philanthropic sector.Multiyear funding will support activities that include building capacity for grantmaking institutions, philanthropic networks and associations; providing support to the Southern African HIV/AIDS Intermediary Grantmaker Collaborative; conducting peer learning workshops; and documenting and developing learning materials.Accomplishments during the past three years included establishing a regional office for southern Africa in Cape Town; developing networks and partnerships with indigenous grantmakers and the nonprofit sector in the region; assessing the size and scope of HIV/AIDS programs and approaches in the region; and taking the lead in forming the Southern African HIV/AIDS Intermediary Grantmaker Collaborative.
