About this grant
This grant will enable the Synergos Institute’s southern African regional office to foster a culture of giving and strengthen indigenous philanthropy in South Africa and the broader region. Activities will include institutional development of the philanthropic sector, training, capacity building, research, conferences, seminars and workshops, and networking.Achievements during the past three years included providing advisory support to partners and other stakeholders in the philanthropy and civil society sectors, both in the southern Africa region and more globally; connecting partners in South Africa and the region to international philanthropy conversations and networks; supporting research and case studies on key challenges in philanthropy and social justice; disseminating tools and resources for grantmakers and philanthropists; providing technical assistance to partners and other stakeholders; convening learning forums and dialogue and capacity-building events; facilitating staff and board development for indigenous grantmaking organizations; and promoting wider regional grantmaker networks and affinity groups.The institute, founded in 1986, promotes collaborative approaches to overcoming poverty and fostering sustainable development in developing countries.
