About this grant

The Synergos Institute was established to coordinate and strengthen philanthropy globally. Mott provided previous support to strengthen philanthropy in the southern Africa region through a regional office in South Africa. The regional office has since established itself as a South African nonprofit with its own staff and local board. This grant will provide support to the local Synergos nonprofit to strengthen philanthropic and nonprofit organizations in South Africa and the broader southern Africa region. Particular emphasis will be given to building philanthropy for social justice. Synergos will provide training, support, and technical assistance to independent foundations, grantmakers, community foundations, and other bridging organizations. The grantee will also provide networking opportunities, facilitate debates and discussions, and support advocacy to strengthen indigenous philanthropy in South Africa and the broader southern Africa region.
