About this grant

The Altamaha Riverkeeper was established in 1999 to protect and restore the habitat, water quality and flow of the Altamaha River. The organization’s goal is to engage citizens, businesses and government in a collaborative effort to prevent further degradation of the river and its tributaries.Multiyear funding will support efforts to reduce water pollution; protect forested wetlands; promote sound water management policy; and build organizational capacity. Recent accomplishments included participating in a variety of educational programs; hosting ecological field trips to increase citizen and decisionmakers’ exposure to issues that affect them; responding to citizen water quality concerns; identifying and stopping sources of pollution; and launching a successful major donor campaign.
