About this grant
This grant will enable the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition to continue its Study on Education Organizing and Academic Improvement project. Through the project, neighborhood parent and youth leaders address community-driven school reform in New York City’s Bronx. Multiyear funding will support activities that include strengthening parent and youth leadership skills through training sessions; coordinating youth and parent organizing; and working to improve local schools in the areas of programs, policies, facilities, safety, and teaching and learning. In addition, the coalition will continue to work with New York University’s Institute for Education and Social Policy on an eight-site study of community organizing and academic improvement.Recent achievements included organizing a neighborhood walk to introduce teachers to the community; advocating for a lead teacher in two schools; and proposing a new public high school centered on leadership, community action and social justice.
