About this grant
The Florida Statewide Education Reform Project is a grassroots community organizing effort to improve student achievement in low-income, low-performing public schools in Florida. The project is coordinated by People Acting for Community Together, a community organization associated with the Direct Action and Research Training Center, and has helped several thousand families in Florida during the past eight years. This grant will enable a coalition of 10 congregation-based community organizations to work together to improve student achievement.Multiyear funding will support goals that include building the capacity of each of the participating organizations; training at least 1,000 grassroots leaders to be effective advocates for change in their communities; conducting local issue campaigns across the state on education reform issues; building relationships among leaders and staff of participating organizations; collaborating to ensure continued statewide support for the direct instruction program; and working together on the universal pre-kindergarten program and other statewide campaigns.
