About this grant

This grant will enable the Synergos Institute to continue its Global Philanthropy program, which works to strengthen foundations, associations of foundations and foundation support organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Senior fellows provide training and technical assistance to these organizations, with connections to global support networks and resources also provided.Funding will specifically support four senior fellows and help them prepare for the next senior fellows’ global meeting, which is scheduled for Cape Town, South Africa, in May 2005. The meeting, "Philanthropy & the Call of Our Time," will identify global trends and consider the potential role of philanthropy in achieving a more just and equitable world. Fellows will provide consulting services and technical assistance to other fellows as well as local participants from South Africa.Accomplishments during the past three years included helping the Esquel Foundation strengthen its capitalization plan and build an endowment strategy; convening regional workshops on foundation accountability and sustainability in Southeast Asia; producing an online compendium of case studies and research written by senior fellows; organizing a global meeting of senior fellows; and actively participating in the Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support.
