About this grant
United Way of Genesee County works in partnership with the Flint Community Schools and the Genesee Intermediate School District to operate Bridges to the Future, an afterschool program for students in kindergarten through ninth grade. The program encourages positive youth development through safe, accessible, and challenging activities that appeal to students’ diverse interests. Bridges to the Future is offered in more than 100 schools in all 21 Genesee County school districts. According to a recent third-party evaluation, more than 90 percent of parents whose children attend Bridges to the Future report that their children do better in school and learn new things as a result of the program. Mott funding will provide partial support for the program’s operations during the 2007-2008 year, enabling United Way of Genesee County to continue refining the Bridges to the Future model while seeking a sustainable long-term funding stream.
