About this grant
This grant will provide support to the United Way of Genesee County for the Bridges to the Future Afterschool Program. For the 2009-10 program year, Bridges will begin to implement a new strategic plan that provides a research-based, high quality afterschool program model to students with the greatest needs. To develop this plan, the United Way of Genesee County, Genesee Intermediate School District, and Flint Community Schools considered questions of governance, management structure, program structure, criteria for selecting schools and sites, quality development, and staffing. The program will place renewed emphasis on positive student outcomes for learning and youth development. A system of shared support for professional development and curriculum will be put into place for 44 sites with funding from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers and the Foundation. Established in 1922, the United Way of Genesee County supports local nonprofits in the areas of basic needs, child/youth development, older adults, and strengthening families.
