About this grant
In 1999, the Alliance for Quality Education: Statewide Education Financing Reform Project was formed to build a coalition of community organizations and other education stakeholders who were interested in working on school finance reform and education improvements in New York State, particularly for children from economically disadvantaged communities.Multiyear funding will enable the alliance to expand the public support base; organize local forums to educate the public and generate media coverage of the issue; create at least two faith-based roundtables as constituents and voices for improved public education; develop 75 new local leaders; maintain and strengthen the coalition by holding regular meetings; and release at least two statewide reports on the state of public education in New York.During the past five years, the alliance has built a broad statewide coalition with more than 230 organizations, encouraged active local organizing in seven regions, organized a statewide steering committee represented by major regions and key organizations, and created a cohesive message and policy program.
