About this grant

The goal of the Central/Eastern Europe and Russia Regional Governance program is to strengthen the nonprofit sector in Central/Eastern Europe (CEE) and Russia by fostering the development of strong and effective boards of directors. The program was launched to establish partnerships in Ukraine and Hungary; explore the feasibility of a partnership in Poland; provide region-specific advanced training in board development for international fellows from the region; and design and conduct a survey of governance practices in select countries.Funding will support activities that include producing a publication on non-governmental organization (NGO) governance; organizing meetings of the CEE Working Group on NGO governance; and developing case studies on NGO governance. The 14 members of the CEE Working Group represent 11 CEE/Russia countries. The Working Group offers a unique opportunity for regional NGO leaders to reinforce their commitment to and understanding of NGO governance.Recent accomplishments included establishing partnerships in CEE/Russia; organizing three advanced training seminars for 14 international fellows; and conducting a survey of governance practices in Hungary and Ukraine.
