About this grant

In order to ensure that welfare reform research and evaluation findings reach important decisionmakers and inform the legislation reauthorization debates, the goal of the Center on Children and Families – created by the Brookings Institution – is to review available evidence and synthesize the most important lessons for policymakers. Multiyear funding will enable the institution to continue efforts to identify and analyze new policy options and their potential to improve the prospects and quality of life of low-income families. Activities will include disseminating policy briefs; organizing a series of conferences and seminars where important reauthorization aspects will be examined and discussed; and publishing two books – one on breaking the cycle of poverty and improving life prospects for children; and another focusing on the history of the 1996 federal welfare reform law.
