About this grant
The Intercultural Institute of Timisoara, established in 1992, supports the development of civil society in multicultural Romanian communities by promoting the values of cultural diversity. The goal of the institute is to strengthen the integration of minorities, especially Roma, into Romanian society through education. Multiyear funding will enable the institute to promote intercultural and democratic approaches in the formal education system in Romania; organize nonformal educational activities that demonstrate intercultural and democratic approaches; provide support to Roma communities and organizations; and explore new areas related to intercultural education and education for democratic citizenship, such as global education and education for gender equity.Recent accomplishments included promoting sustainable regional cultural strategies that encourage respect for and enhance cultural diversity; participating in national and international events and networks; and sharing experiences with Romanian non-governmental organizations in the field of intercultural education.
