About this grant
This grant will enable the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation to continue raising awareness of the policies and practices of Nordic export credit agencies (ECAs) and their need for reform. In addition to individual ECAs, the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden – also have a regional ECA, the Nordic Investment Bank, which has only recently begun the development of environmental policies for its lending and guarantee programs. In addition to the important economic power of these ECAs, the Nordic region has historically encouraged and supported sustainable development policies and activities.Funding will support activities that include expanding the Nordic ECA Reform Network; coordinating a major analytical study on the impact of Nordic ECAs in developing countries; commissioning case studies highlighting potential funding projects; and continuing to participate in the development of international strategies on ECA reform at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the European Union.Recent accomplishments included raising awareness about the impact of Finnish ECAs with other Finnish non-governmental organizations, government officials and decisionmakers; and assisting Finnvera, a major ECA, to accept new environmental guidelines and strengthen in-house environmental analytic practices and expertise.
