About this grant
By providing opportunities for the public and local representatives to discuss issues of concern, the project works to increase participation in community life for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Center for Civic Cooperation works with radio stations in western Bosnia and Herzegovina to produce programs where local representatives are available to talk with journalists and answer questions from people who call the program.Multiyear funding will enable the center to encourage people in western Bosnia and Herzegovina to take an active part in decisionmaking and hold elected officials accountable; create a pattern and practice of public debate and discussion on issues that affect daily life; work with eight radio stations to produce 12 radio call-in programs; and publish an updated handbook on responsive governance for local government and the public.During the first year of the program, the center produced 80 programs and organized 16 discussion workshops for local representatives and the public on issues raised on the radio programs.
