About this grant

This grant will provide continued support to Focus: HOPE, established in 1968 to serve the needs of low-income Detroit residents through a range of programs to alleviate poverty and promote civil rights. Key programs include manufacturing and technology training, such as the Machinist Training Institute (MTI) and the Center for Advanced Technologies (CAT); remedial programs to improve math and reading levels; and food distribution services. Funding will enable Focus: HOPE to pursue goals including increasing student enrollment in all training programs; increasing manufacturing sales; improving retention so that more students complete the MTI program and receive bachelor’s or associate’s degrees from CAT; expanding the food distribution program; and improving organizational effectiveness. To date, more than 9,000 have graduated from Focus: HOPE’s manufacturing and technology training programs and approximately 43,000 families are benefiting from the food distribution program on a monthly basis.
