About this grant
The International Society for Third-Sector Research will host a conference in Benin, West Africa in early 2004. The goal of the conference is to provide a forum for debate on the role of civil society in the challenges facing Africa.Funding will enable representatives of nonprofits from South Africa and southern Africa to attend the conference. The conference will examine the challenges facing Africa in instituting, extending and consolidating democratic systems of government and the role that civil society can play in ensuring good governance and respect for human rights. In addition, the conference will explore the role of civil society in reducing poverty and emphasize how networks can ensure a stronger voice for Africa in the globalized world.
