About this grant

This grant provides continued support to a community philanthropy and rights defense organization in southern Ukraine. The Kherson Regional Charity and Health Foundation helps the poor and socially excluded through direct material aid and legal assistance on the protection of their rights. Charitable programs include providing surgical equipment and training for a local tuberculosis hospital and supporting talented children from low-income families. Through its network of public consulting centers, the grantee provides informational, social and legal assistance to approximately 5,000 individuals annually; trains civic activists in advocacy skills; and conducts advocacy campaigns on pressing social issues. Besides working locally, the grantee has established and will continue to develop a nationwide network of 77 advocacy organizations in 26 Ukrainian regions. The Kherson Regional Charity and Health Foundation also will continue to develop its philanthropic programs within the Kherson region; provide information, training, and methodological support to lawyers and consultants on human rights in eight eastern and southern Ukrainian regions; and invest in the professional development of its staff.
