About this grant
Creating Effective Grassroots Alternatives (CEGA) is a Bulgarian non-governmental organizations that provides capacity-building support to local community initiatives working for community change. It focuses on marginalized and ethnically diverse communities, particularly Roma communities, and the capacity and ability of these communities to access local, national and European development resources.Multiyear funding will enable CEGA to build the capacity of community groups to mobilize local resources, promote community leadership and engage in income-generating projects; encourage networking among Roma and non-Roma groups working on the issue of access to development resources and youth leadership; advocate nationally for more access to development resources and the social integration of Roma communities; and raise awareness among the majority population of the importance of inclusive public participation in decisionmaking at community levels.During the past two years, CEGA has worked with more than 50 Roma groups involved in local, national and regional activities; helped link grassroots best practices to national-level policy development; and facilitated a network of 14 civic organizations that advocate for access to education, information and aid for marginalized communities.
