About this grant
The Center for Leadership and Public Values was established at the University of Cape Town, with a partner center at the University of Duke in the U.S. Both centers were created to strengthen public leadership, promote public values, support the development of civil society, and encourage cooperation between leaders from South African and U.S. nonprofits.Multiyear funding will support the center’s Emerging Leadership Program, the Binational Civil Society Forum and the Ethics and Public Life Initiative. As the flagship program, the Emerging Leadership program provides training, support and mentoring to potential leaders. The Binational Civil Society Forum brings together leaders from nonprofits in the U.S. and South Africa to explore ways to collaborate to strengthen civil society in both countries. Through the Ethics and Public Life Initiative, the center hosts lectures, and publishes articles and reports on the importance of public values in underpinning democracy in South Africa and other parts of the world.
