About this grant

The Centro Mexicano para la Filantropia is a leading philanthropic support organization in Mexico. In order to address local needs, nearly 20 community foundations were established in Mexico during the past decade. In 2001, an affinity group was formed to provide professional development, networking and information services to community foundation staff.Funding will enable the center to strengthen existing community foundations in Mexico by providing training and technical assistance and establishing networking opportunities both regionally and internationally. The center will also work to increase the visibility and awareness of Mexican community foundations and promote the establishment of new community foundations.Recent accomplishments included developing standards for community foundations; negotiating an agreement with Microsoft Mexico to establish three funds that support adult technology training; convening five workshops for community foundations; conducting an evaluation of the community foundation group’s work during the past five years; providing customized technical assistance to 13 community foundations to help increase endowments; and participating in international community foundation efforts such as the Transatlantic Community Foundation Network.
