About this grant
The Balkan Community Initiatives Fund encourages and supports the emergence of grassroots community development initiatives throughout Serbia and Montenegro by awarding grants for community-based projects and providing technical assistance to its grantees. Multiyear funding will enable the fund to award approximately 90 grants totaling $240,000. Grants will support community-based projects that respond to clear needs, issues and problems identified by local community stakeholders and are implemented by community-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civic groups. In addition, the fund is currently establishing an indigenous grantmaking organization in Serbia and Montenegro to stimulate the development of philanthropy. Funding will enable the new organization to focus on skill building and leadership development, determine the strategic focus of its grantmaking programs and establish internal grantmaking and operations systems.Since its establishment, the fund has made more than 120 grants of up to $2,500 each to community-based NGOs and informal civic groups.
