About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen philanthropy and encourage civic participation in Serbia by supporting the development of the Trag Foundation (formerly, the Balkan Community Initiatives Fund – Serbia), an indigenous grantmaking organization based in Belgrade. During the next two years, the grantee will aim to distribute more than $1.4 million annually in grants to community-based nonprofits in Serbia, provide networking and training opportunities to these organizations, and promote philanthropy at local and national levels. In addition, the grantee will build its organizational capacities and sustainability through long-term financial planning, diversification of its funding base, and the development of an endowment. During 2013-2015, the grantee continued to be the leading grantmaker for community-based nonprofits, providing 231 grants totaling $1,877,572 in 137 communities in Serbia. Additionally, with partners in the Western Balkans, the grantee designed and began implementation of a multiyear, European Commission-funded regional program to promote and develop philanthropy in the region. The Trag Foundation is registered in Serbia and works through a core staff based in Belgrade.
