About this grant

The Central/Eastern European (CEE) Citizens Network, created in 2001, brings together non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on community organizing in the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. The network organizes training opportunities, study visits, conferences and joint initiatives between members and provides information on community-organizing approaches and activities.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include increasing membership from 21 to 30 organizations and from 15 to 18 countries; raising awareness among network members and the public about citizen initiatives throughout the region; building the capacities of citizens and local leaders in CEE and the Newly Independent States; and promoting citizen participation throughout the region.Accomplishments during the past two years included expanding membership to 15 countries and 21 organizations; establishing and maintaining a Web site; conducting training sessions for members; organizing a conference for 130 participants from all 15 member countries; participating in two regional conferences in Ukraine and Russia; facilitating 10 bilateral exchanges between member organizations; and developing a representative leadership structure for the network.
