About this grant

This grant will enable the San Francisco Foundation Community Initiative to continue supporting statewide afterschool efforts in California through its Foundation Consortium for California’s Children & Youth. In 1999, the California Department of Education (CDE) and the consortium formed the California Afterschool Partnership to ensure quality afterschool programs through a system of technical assistance and support while strengthening the policy voice of afterschool. Fourth-year funding will enable the partnership to build quality programs through a regional system of field support; strengthen regional capacity; and improve policy by engaging stakeholders. Since its establishment, the partnership has focused on building the capacity of local programs to succeed by assigning responsibility to regional groups for providing supports and services for afterschool programs; delegating a mentor to provide direct support to sites and a CDE program consultant to provide administrative and program support; and creating Regional Learning Centers to serve as learning laboratories for programs to receive hands-on support.
