About this grant
The Afterschool Alliance was launched in 1999 to ensure that all children and youth — particularly those in underserved populations — have access to quality, affordable afterschool programs. The alliance serves as a public resource on and voice for afterschool programs by researching and disseminating key data and lessons learned; educating the public through ongoing awareness efforts; engaging local practitioners and community residents in outreach and advocacy; and promoting investment in afterschool initiatives at the national, state and local levels.Funding will enable the alliance to pursue objectives that include building a broad base of support for afterschool programs; ensuring the sustainability of programs by providing resources and creating funding and sustainability tools; deepening state commitment to the afterschool movement; and promoting equitable access to and participation in quality afterschool programs.Recent accomplishments included working at the federal level to increase funding for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative; identifying other federal funding sources for afterschool programs; supporting advocacy efforts in nearly 20 states; working to advance the afterschool movement in all 50 states; and providing training and tools for sustainability and advocacy for afterschool programs at the local level.
