About this grant

Internews Network is a global organization that promotes independent media in emerging democracies; trains professional journalists; produces innovative television and radio programs and Internet content; and uses the media to reduce conflict within and between countries.Multiyear funding will enable the network to expand and improve its capacity to provide journalism and media management training to media professionals in more than 50 countries; help local affiliates to become more efficient, self-sustaining, autonomous organizations; strengthen and expand a worldwide campaign for open media; replicate model programs related to HIV/AIDS in more countries; establish a small grants program for Afghanistan; and support professional, independent media in the Arab world.Recent accomplishments included expanding programs to 20 new countries; convening the first multilateral cooperation on Iraq related to the development of media law; training 441 journalists from 12 Arab countries and launching a new Arabic language Web site; developing radio programs about HIV/AIDS in Kenya and Nigeria; building 11 radio stations in Afghanistan and training Afghan journalists; and training media and producing radio programs for the Caucasus countries.
