About this grant

The Disability Network created the Bridge (Digital Divide Through Access to Technology) Project to ensure that Genesee County’s citizens with disabilities have access to the assistive technology they need to gain, regain or retain education and employment. Funding will enable the Disability Network to continue operating the Community Technology Center; use the newly developed assistive technology curriculum to train an additional 10 individuals to work with businesses, schools and individuals; identify the assistive technology needs of K-12 students as well as those attending post-secondary institutions; and conduct a gap analysis of the assistive technology training and acquisition needs of the Genesee Intermediate School District.Accomplishments during the first two years included establishing a modularized assistive technology curriculum in cooperation with Mott Community College; upgrading the Community Technology Center; adding 29 new classes and training sessions; recruiting and training 40 volunteers; and developing a marketing and referral system.
