About this grant

Youth Action in Community Development was created by Civic Initiatives to encourage young people in Serbia, particularly those in rural and isolated towns and communities, to learn about democracy and get involved in their communities. Through intensive mentoring and interactive workshops on democracy, human rights, nonviolent communication, citizen action and the nonprofit sector, young people work on projects to address issues in their communities.Multiyear funding will support informal civic education and sustainable civic engagement. The informal civic education component will include four weekend training sessions with up to 25 participants between the ages of 18 and 25 led by a team of experienced trainers. The sustainable civic engagement component will assist youth groups in eight towns to become active in community development and decisionmaking. The groups will conduct needs assessments, prioritize problems, reach out to other stakeholders in their communities, design responses and implement projects.
