About this grant
The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide is a network of more than 300 local environmental leaders in 60 countries around the world working to prevent environmental degradation and to reform international finance and trade institutions.Multiyear funding will support activities that include hosting working exchange fellowships to build the skills and knowledge of local environmental leaders in developing countries; maintaining and improving the electronic network; reviewing environmental impact assessments for partners; posting technical resources on the Web site and assisting with translation of technical information; encouraging collaboration among network members; promoting public participation in environmental decisionmaking; organizing various workshops and conducting outreach in developing countries to build the capacity and skills of local environmental leaders; expanding the network; and co-hosting the annual international meeting in the Ukraine in 2004 and hosting the annual meeting in Oregon in 2005.During the past two years, the network built its constituency of local environmental leaders; informed local leaders within the network of opportunities to influence international financial institution programs and trade negotiations; and provided technical assistance to groups to help them challenge projects supported by international finance and trade institutions that threaten environmental and human rights.
