About this grant

The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide is a network of more than 300 environmental leaders in 60 countries working to protect the environment through the development and enforcement of standards, policy and law. For more than a decade, the alliance has convened annual meetings of environmental lawyers, scientists and other advocates from around the world to share scientific and legal resources; gain skills, including how to use electronic tools and build strong organizations; and address the challenge of reforming international finance and trade policies.Multiyear funding will support activities that include providing scientific and technical expertise and resources to alliance partners; helping environmental leaders utilize the accountability mechanisms of international financial institutions; collaborating with environmental leaders and trade institutions to improve environmental policies; conducting training and workshops to help environmental leaders build skills to monitor and influence international financial institutions and agreements; and expanding the network of lawyers and scientists participating in the network. Funding includes an increase that will enable the alliance to hold its annual international meeting, with approximately 40 grassroots environmental lawyers and advocates from 30 countries expected to attend.
