About this grant
Satyagraha is a monthly insert published in one of KwaZulu-Natal’s leading daily newspapers. It is produced by a group of volunteers, one of whom is Ela Gandhi, a granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi. The newsletter focuses on Indo-Africa relations in KwaZulu-Natal, where these two groups continue to experience tension and conflict.Multiyear funding will enable Satyagraha to increase the size of the insert in order to expand contributions from other civil society-based organizations; continue updating its Web site and making it accessible; and negotiate special spots on a number of community radio stations in KwaZulu-Natal to feature articles that will be published.During the past two years, the newsletter featured articles on nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts, interfaith understanding and religious and cultural tolerance; examples of efforts on peace building and reconciliation at an international level; the role that civil society-based organizations can play in promoting peace, nation building and reconciliation; and how communities can work together to reduce poverty.
