About this grant
Since 2002, the project has been documenting the unique public/private partnership between the Mott Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, including how resources have been leveraged to increase the quantity and quality of school-based/school-linked afterschool programs across the country, and how the project has influenced education and public policy at national, state and local levels.Funding will support activities that include scheduling and conducting an additional 10-15 interviews with politicians and other key decisionmakers; finishing the first draft of a manuscript documenting the Mott-ED partnership; editing and revising the manuscript; completing the final draft; and completing two policy briefs that focus on topics such as public/private partnership development, impact of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) initiative on education reform, and the importance of building public will.Accomplishments during the past year included reviewing written, visual and Web materials related to community and afterschool programs, as well as material about the 21st CCLC initiative; assembling a list of interview prospects whose perspectives are critical to the telling of the partnership’s story; scheduling and conducting more than 40 interviews with various stakeholders; and completing an outline of the main manuscript.
