About this grant

The National PTA, the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States, works to increase parent and teacher involvement in afterschool programs by raising awareness and encouraging advocacy among its 6.2 million members. It sponsors a number of national and local events, including the "Lights On! Afterschool" campaign of the Afterschool Alliance.Multiyear funding will enable the organization to increase communication through its national magazine, annual resource guide, and brochures and posters; partner with state PTAs to disseminate the Afterschool Programs Resolution and implement it at the local level; and provide technical assistance to three state PTAs to implement afterschool programs in urban areas.Recent accomplishments included creating the "Doors Open Afterschool Week" to coincide with the Afterschool Alliance’s "Lights On! Afterschool" event; developing materials for local PTAs to evaluate the quality of their afterschool programs; and adopting the afterschool resolution.
