About this grant
The Democracy Development Programme was established in 1993 to promote democracy, good governance, and citizen participation in the democratic process in South Africa. It works in the KwaZulu-Natal Province and provides training to municipal officials and communities to improve their understanding of their rights and responsibilities. Past support has enabled the grantee to implement training programs, enhance their training material, and facilitate dialogue between political and traditional leadership in communities to build cohesion. This grant will enable the grantee to continue providing training to communities and officials to deepen their understanding of the role of local government and facilitate dialogue between various community structures. In addition, the grantee will partner with local community radio stations to increase its footprint and educate communities about the role of local government within communities.
