About this grant

Tax policy continues to figure centrally in the nation’s key economic decisions. Although recent spending reductions and revenue increases have reduced near-term deficits, long-term imbalances remain a central concern. Renewal grant support will enable the Urban Institute’s Joint Tax Policy Center to continue providing policymakers, tax analysts, the media, and the public with accurate, unbiased, timely, and understandable information about the tax policy choices facing our nation. Using its own tax model and other resources, the center produces timely analyses of current tax proposals and long-term analyses of systemic tax and related spending issues and communicates these results to the public and policymakers in a timely and innovative manner. In the long run, the center’s goal is to help shape the terms of the debate in which tax policy is considered. The Urban Institute — a Washington, DC-based think tank — gathers data, conducts research, evaluates programs, offers technical assistance overseas, and educates Americans on social and economic issues to foster sound public policy and effective government.
