About this grant
In 2001, the Great Lakes governors and premiers signed an addendum to the Great Lakes Charter, commonly called, "Annex 2001." The purpose of the annex was to establish new management principles for the withdrawal and diversion of Great Lakes waters. Since then, state and provincial leaders have been developing an interstate compact (the Great Lakes compact) and other agreements to implement Annex 2001. Clean Wisconsin has been working to educate various state decisionmakers about the compact and related policies.Multiyear funding will enable Clean Wisconsin to pursue public outreach activities; educate opinion leaders and decisionmakers about the importance of protective water management measures; work with state agency officials to adopt administrative rules in keeping with the terms of the interstate compact; and coordinate activities with other state and regional non-governmental organizations.
